There’s always something to do at Dinefwr, whatever the weather. Explore the spacious rooms of the House, discover what’s new in Fairy Village, enjoy lunch in the café, take a walk around the ancient Welsh parkland and woodlands, or if you are feeling energetic, head to the majestic ruins of Dinefwr Castle.

May half term (25 May to June 2)

There’s plenty to keep the whole family busy at Dinefwr this May half term.

800 acres to explore

Let off steam in 800 acres of parkland, visit the famous White Park Cattle with their new calves, follow the pushchair accessible boardwalk trail, or if you’re feeling energetic head for Dinefwr Castle, the 12th-century fortress under the care of CADW.

LEGO

Inside Newton House, hunt high and low to see how many hidden LEGO figures you can find or try on the hand-made costumes in the Drawing Room and become some of the characters from some of the House’s historic portraits.

Make a banner for Llandeilo Pride

Wednesday 29th May, 11am – 3pm

Join us for a free workshop to create a magical banner by making and sewing fabric flowers, ready for Llandeilo Pride on 15 June.

Sunflower planting

Friday 31st May, 11am – 2pm

Join the garden team to plant a sunflower seed, decorate a plant pot and choose a spot to place it in the courtyard. Then come back on the 25 August for the Sunflower Festival and see if yours has grown to be the tallest, widest, or most vivid yellow. Your sunflower will become a very important part of our playful courtyard space opening at the start of the summer holidays. Watch this space!

Walks at Dinefwr

Escape into nature and enjoy the beauty of Dinefwr’s 800 acres of woodland, veteran trees and parkland. The impressive ruins of Dinefwr castle tower above the Estate and a trail leads to the Castle from the car park, with the reward of a truly magnificent view of the whole Towy valley. Dinefwr is full of many species of birds and wildlife and the resident herd of Fallow deer can often be spotted grazing nearby the House.

Planning your family visit

To help you plan your day out in advance, here’s some key information:

  • You can find all our opening times here for the different parts of the estate. Please check before you travel as opening times for certain areas may change depending on the season.
  • Dogs are welcome around most parts of the estate and in the house and café. Read more about visiting with your four-legged friend here.
  • Toilets can be found in the visitor’s centre at the car park and within the basement of Newton House. Disabled toilets and changing facilities are in the visitor’s centre at the car park.
  • Admission prices can be found on our webpage here (National Trust members enter for free).
  • If you’re visiting with a wheelchair or pushchair, there is level access from the car park to Newton House. Accessible, level paths can be found to the front of Newton House, but please note that some trails may be unsuitable and there is no lift inside the house. If you require assistance or more information, please ask a member of our friendly team.
